Homemade Cough Syrup

Homemade Cough Syrup

As it is autumn already and winter and the time for colds is approaching, here are two recipes for homemade cough syrups you can easily make yourself and that work as well as any cough medication you get over the counter.

Thyme-Lemon Cough Syrup

Just boil a bunch of fresh or dried thyme in 250ml of water and let it simmer for 20-30 minutes.Strain it and add the juice of an organic lemon and 250ml of honey.

Mix it well and pour it into a clean jar. In the fridge you can keep it for several weeks.

If you have a cough or a sore throat, just take a teaspoon full of the cough syrup several times a day. You can also add it to tea and drink it.

Red Onion Cough Syrup

Chop red onions really finely and fill them in a jar mixed with brown sugar. Just one layer of onions, one layer of brown sugar and so on…

After two or three hours you can strain it and pour it in a clean jar. Store it in the fridge.

If you prefer honey instead of brown sugar, you can as well use honey.
