Do Diets Make Sense

If you keep struggling to lose weight or keep it down after a diet and have already tried out different diets, you might ask yourself if diets make sense at all.

Well, probably not really I would say, even though they are of course very popular especially at this time of the year. Christmas is over and the summer holidays aren’t so far away. And don’t we want to look our very best on a sunny beach or in a bar?

You can of course try a diet for a rapid weight loss just in time for summer, but the question is whether it is any more than a quick fix and you put weight on again pretty soon.

Food and weight gain or loss are basically common sense. If you eat more calories than you use, you gain weight and only when you use more than you eat, you can lose weight.

And if you try to starve yourself, only to lose weight quickly, you’re very likely to put it on again very quickly.

The only thing that makes sense is take your time. Reduce your calorie intake by eating a balanced diet with lots of veggies and whole grains. Substitute a snack with and apple or an orange. And simply reduce your portion sizes a litte. These days we got used to much to big portion sizes.

It is also important to drink a lot of water instead of soft drinks with a lot of sugar.

And never go food shopping when you’re hungry.

You should also try to exercise a bit more. You don’t have to start training for a marathon, just get off the bus one stop earlier and walk the rest of the way, or use the stairs instead of the elevator. If you have a dog, it will certainly appreciate a little longer walk every day.

If you stick to a healthy balanced diet, you might not lose weight quickly but it will be a more healthy way. And you will be able to stick to it for as long as you like.
